Our Heroes are people who have either donated land for conservation or provided funds so that the Trust can purchase land of high ecological value in the Massawippi Valley.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the extended Lim family for their generosity. On December 21st, 2023, led by Hai Toh Lim, they donated a stunning 19-acre marsh property located in the heart of a larger wetland at the mouth of the Tomifobia River, southeast of the lake. This wetland serves a vital role as the “kidneys” of the lake, filtering the water that flows into it. Its ecological significance is immense.
Equally important, this donation now makes the Lim family’s property the “dominant” landholding in the area. As a result, up to 26 neighboring landowners will have the opportunity to attach servitudes to this property, further protecting their own parcels of the entire wetlands. Discussions have already begun with these neighboring owners, and if successful, the Lim family’s contribution could help safeguard as much as 700 acres of wetlands. The importance of this donation cannot be overstated. It will have lasting positive impacts on the local ecosystem, and we are profoundly grateful for the Lim family’s vision and commitment to conservation.
Bravo, Lim family!
